Over the course of working on Bearly Baking, I enjoyed how much cross-disciplinary dialogue was happening regularly. Through this, I maintained constant communication with the team, which included organization group work sessions, having individual meetings with people whose roles overlapped with mine as an in-dialogue sprite artist, UI designer, and UI artist. I collaborated closely with another artist to create a unified storybook aesthetic, which drew inspiration from Chris Dunn’s art style. I designed a diverse cast of woodland characters, who helped build Bearly Baking’s cozy atmosphere, and made a variety of expressions for the characters to bring them further to life.
The UI work I designed and created art for was for the kitchen area, where the player has to stir, bake, and decorate pastries for their guests. To bring that warm kitchen atmosphere into Bearly Baking, I drew from real-world references such as berries, baskets, jars, and other kitchenware to make the in-game counterpart clearly based in reality. I drafted UI layouts in Figma alongside our producer to make sure key information was clear and intuitive for players. These design and art processes lasted from the beginning of the project until its finale, which I saw through to its end and final publication on Steam.
